So far, the tools for capturing such images have been limited, but researchers led by Takeshi Fukuma and Takehiko Ichikawa at Kanazawa University have now devised and reported a full protocol for using atomic force microscopy (AFM) to image inside living cells . The research is published in the journal STAR Protocols . AFM was first developed in the 1980s and uses the changes in the forces between a sample surface and a nanoscale tip attached to a cantilever to identify surfaces and produce images of the topography with nanoscale resolution. Supercomputer decodes protein ‘language,’ offering new clues to fight cancer

O riginally published by  Mrigakshi Dixit  on  Oct 27, 2025  Representational image of protein interaction.  Getty Images    A supercomputer has helped to create an artificial intelligence model that deciphers the “language of proteins.” Scientists at the University of Glasgow used the Tursa supercomputer at the UK’s DiRAC High Performance Supercomputer facility . This advanced machine is typically reserved for cosmic research , but it was used for medical purposes in this study. Tursa led to the creation of the protein language model called PLM-Interact .  Interestingly, the model predicts protein interactions and even forecasts which mutations will disrupt the communication between these vital molecules . First map of every neuron in an adult brain has been produced for a fruit fly

The first wiring diagram of every neuron in an adult brain and the 50 million connections between them has been produced for a fruit fly . This landmark achievement has been conducted by a large international collaboration of scientists , called the FlyWire Consortium , including researchers from the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology ( in Cambridge, UK ), Princeton University, the University of Vermont and the University of Cambridge . It is published in a pair of papers in Nature . The diagram of all 139,255 neurons in the adult fly brain is the first of an entire brain for an animal that can walk and see .
